| Review | This is a credit card that is about the basics. It is easy to get into and doesn't have any programs attached to it to complicate matters. It is ideal for people who just require a basic card with reasonable rates. Depending on your credit rating and history, this card will come with different rates and benefits. The Blue Card by American Express is offering introductory annual percentage rates of zero percent. For someone who qualifies, this zero APR is available for up to fifteen months which is one of the longest introductory periods ever. For those who do not qualify for this lengthy interest free period, American Express is also offering twelve or six months depending on your credit review. After the introductory period is over, your interest rate will be set at somewhere between 12.24% and 18.24% based (again) on your personal credit. This card also makes balance transfers quite attractive. If you are carrying a balance on another card at a higher rate, you may well want to move it over to this card. The Blue Card offers a 4.99% rate on your balance transfer for the life of the balance as long as you request the transfer at the time you submit your application. This could save you a lot of money over the months it takes you to pay off your old debt. There is no annual fee for this credit card which keeps it a low cost card. There are some other charges that you may want to be aware of however. Late payments will be charged a fee of $19 on any balances less than $400 and a fee of $38 on balances of $400 or more. American Express also charges for wire transfers, stop payments and other services. As with most credit cards, cash advances are expensive to finance. This card charges prime rate plus 14.99% for this kind of transaction. No matter what card you have, financing cash advances with credit cards is the most expensive kind of borrowing. The American Express Blue Card is a good and simple card. For people who are building their credit or for those who are well established, it is a card without frills but without a lot of expenses either. If you don't feel you need travel rewards or other programs attached to your credit card, consider the Blue Card. |
